Clear Backpacks at Consumer Electronics Show (CES)
The CES show is held in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 9-12, 2018. This is the go-to show for people around the world who are interested in the newest, coolest, upcoming, electronic gadgets. They get to preview tv’s, computers, robots, electronics and smart technology before they hit the market. I heard that this year is one of the biggest shows covering 2.75 million square feet or 63 acres. So why am I talking to you about CES when typically we talk about the prison system? Well I have a good reason that actually started last year.
Last year CES passed out, to certain attendees, backpacks. But these were not ordinary backpacks; they were see through. Plastic, sturdy, clear backpacks. So me, being who I am and the experiences I’ve had thought right away, wouldn’t this be good to bring when visiting someone in prison. Then a year went by and I didn’t think too much about it until I saw the backpack this year. It looked the same except the outline is white instead of the baby blue they used last year. So I wondered if the guards would allow a clear backpack into the prison.
For anyone that has ever visited someone in prison, you know that you typically carry your belongings in a clear plastic bag or purse. Some things you might bring are money, tissues and a brush (if your facility allows a brush). I never heard of any limitations on the size of the plastic bag. I did see some ladies with very fashionable clear purses, but I never purchased one. I always brought a clear quart size bag.
I’ve been told that the CES backpacks are clear for security reasons because of everything that’s going on in the world, however I wonder if the designers of the backpack had ever visited someone in prison and that’s where the idea came from? It’s really not something that people think about or know about unless they’ve visited someone in prison.
I’ve looked at several correctional websites that state you can’t bring a purse or a bag, but no mention of bringing a clear bag. Maybe that’s something you learn from experience? So I wonder if you could bring a Consumer Electronics Show (CES) clear backpack? If anyone tries it, let us know.
